Message from the Superintendent

Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community of South San Francisco,

Spring is in the air and the end of another academic year is upon us.  2011-12 has been a wonderful year for many of our students and staff.  Junipero Serra Elementary School has been designated as a California Distinguished School for the diligent work of their students and staff under the guidance of their principal, Mr. John Schmella. Los Cerritos Elementary has been awarded the prestigious San Mateo County Kent Award for their fantastic intervention program, once again due to the relentless work of the staff and their principal, Mrs. Jammie Behrendt.    (more...)  (y en espãnol...)

Transitional Kindergarten Program offered in 2012

Kindergarten begins an exciting new chapter in the lives of children and their families and sets the tone for a child's social and academic future.  With the increasingly academic nature of kindergarten, however, some parents are finding that their children are not quite ready for the pace and rigor of the kindergarten program.  These children quite often have a fall birthday.  The Kindergarten Readiness Act was signed into law in 2010. Under the new law, children must turn 5 years old on or before September 1 to enroll in kindergarten. Bullying and Hate-Motivated Behavior Prevention Information

Parkway Heights Middle School students’ 5 anti-bullying videos are included in the top 100 of the “The Great American No Bull Challenge”.   The  top 15 will be selected at the awards show in San Francisco this July.  Congratulations to the students and staff for their hard work on this project.
